Appointments

For routine appointments please telephone 0131-663-1051. The receptionist will give you the first available appointment with the doctor of your choice.

Home Visits

The doctors will visit patients who cannot manage to attend the Medical Centre. For routine house calls, please telephone 0131-663-1051 (preferably before 10.00 am) and leave your information with the receptionist.

Measles outbreak declared on Merseyside

A measles outbreak has been declared on Merseyside. There are 13 confirmed and 16 suspected cases ranging in age from nine months to adults aged in their 20s. Six people, four children and two adults, required treatment in hospital. This compares to just one confirmed case on Merseyside in the first six weeks of 2011 and one in the corresponding period of 2010.

Update on Legionnaires’ Cluster Associated with a Hotel in Spain

10 February 2012, 1400hrs. The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has this week been alerted by the Spanish public health authorities about a further case of Legionnaires’ Disease in a UK resident who stayed at the Diamante Beach Hotel in Calpe, Costa Blanca, as well as two French cases. This brings the total number of UK residents associated with this cluster to 12, with three deaths.

The practice and treatment room nurses see patients in booked appointment times from Monday to Friday. They attend to dressings, suture removal, blood pressure checks, HRT advice, ear syringing and other procedures, e.g. travel vaccinations. They also carry out investigative procedures, vaccinations, and run clinics for chronic diseases, newly registered patients and cervical cytology (smears). The phlebotomists take blood for testing.

Health Visitors are trained nurses with experience in community care, child surveillance, children with special needs, child protection, care of the elderly, midwifery and health promotion. They may be contacted through the surgery or at their own base, and will see you either in your own home or at their base. Health visitors liaise with other professions and agencies.
